At St Giles Academy, we want pupils’ experiences of education to be enjoyable and engaging. We expect all members of the academy community, parents, families and staff, to work collaboratively with high aspirations and expectations of everyone, consistent with our values.
Our engaging, broad and balanced curriculum follows the National Curriculum and is enriched with visits and experiences. Not only does the curriculum challenge all children, it intends to provide memorable and meaningful experiences, be well planned, differentiated through creative planning and high quality first teaching. There will be numerous learning experiences with further opportunities through extra-curricular activities.
Teaching encourages pupils to ask questions and talk intelligently about their learning and progress. Throughout their learning journey, pupils will develop a love of reading through an effective balance of synthetic phonics, drama, speaking and listening, guided reading and story-telling. In mathematics, we plan for meaningful activities with firm foundations in mathematical facts, calculation reasoning and problem solving. Our curriculum is strongly aligned with our vision for the children to live happy, safe and successful lives.

At St Giles Academy, we follow the Read Write Inc scheme for Phonics and we use book banding for Reading in KS1 and Accelerated Reader in KS2. In Maths we follow the principles of The White Rose Maths hub and use the Power Maths scheme to support this.
